The June 2008 MLB Entry Draft is rapidly approaching, and Team Ontario pitcher Nick Bucci is riding a wave of momentum that is taking him up scouting charts across the MLB. Nick is currently playing with the Canadian National Junior Team, and he was selected to participate in their tour of the Dominican Republic.
This tour allows Nick to face major league affiliated teams in the Dominican right before the draft. He is in stellar company, and the junior national team is comprised of an elite group of Canadian players. Despite the high company, the right handed pitcher is making his presence known. Nick frustrated Seattle Mariners-affiliated players in his first start with the squad on May 23rd, allowing only one hit and one walk over four shutout innings, striking out six.
He looks to build on this success, and was named the starting pitcher for a game against a team affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays on May 28th in Boca Chica. The Sarnia native’s recent dominance on the international stage has resulted in a move up sportswriter Bob Elliot’s annual Canadian Draft List, from the 14th spot to 12th among Canadian draft prospects. Team Ontario congratulates Nick on his recent performance and wishes him the best of luck in the upcoming draft.
