4 game sweep from 16U's to begin the fall

by Jason Booth

Nothing quite says fall ball like a cloudy, breezy, rainy weekend but that didn't keep the bats of the 16U's from getting hot as they secured four victories, outscoring the Ontario Royals 49-16.

Despite the runs coming in bunches at times, there were several key performances on the mound that helped contribute, especially in the first game of the weekend which saw the bullpen shut the door for a 7-5 victory.

That first game saw Marc Terry take the hill, going three innings for the win followed by Ryan DiPrata who went two innings, picking up five strikeouts in the process. Fionn Keon threw two hitless innings out of the closer's role to help claim the Astros first win of the season.

Frank-Anthony Caietta and David King led the way offensively, picking up two hits apiece and three RBI's between the two. Emmanuel Alberto chipped in as well with a hit and two RBI's while Kameron Baker and Brett Johnston each had a hit and an RBI.

Game two last Saturday saw quite the output on both sides of the ball, highlighted by a one-hit shutout from the pitching staff. Caietta got the start picking up six strikeouts over three innings, Luca Karanopoulos struck out two over two innings, Robert Watters struck out two in his one inning of work and Evan McFadden finished the game picking up all three outs via the strikeout.

There were several standouts at the dish as well led by these five:

King 3-for-4, HR, double and 3 RBI's
DiGiacinto 3-for-3, double
Boyack 1-for-2, double and 2 RBI's
