Evan Gunn commits to Division I Iowa Western

by Jason Booth

Team Ontario's Evan Gunn has committed to NJCAA #9 Division I Iowa Western, a perennial top three division 1 program that had a record of 49-14 during their 2022 campaign.

Gunn came to the Astros at the recommendation of a previous teammate who told him about the games, travel opportunities, and the individual support he had received. Gunn knew this was his next step and would ultimately lead him to this chapter of playing collegiate baseball.

The summer of 2022 was exceptional for Evan Gunn, he had an outstanding season which was capped off with a CPBL all-star selection. This all-star team sent the best 2023 graduates from around the league to compete in the Perfect Game WWBA 18u World Championship in Jupiter, Florida. In addition, Evan was named to play in the T12 tournament, hosted by the Toronto Blue Jays, which is the most prestigious tournament for Canadian Baseball Prospects.

Looking back, Gunn told us that it was because of Team Ontario, that he was able to take the steps to further his baseball career. Leaning on the experience of Team Ontario's coaches and staff, combined with Evan's drive and work ethic,  it was only a matter of time before Evan took this inevitable step in his baseball journey.

Gunn is looking forward to his next chapter in baseball, and all of the challenges and opportunities that come with playing at the collegiate level!

When asked what advice he would give to future Team Ontario players, he told us he wants them “to know it will be a grind. It will be tiring and [sometimes you won’t want to do it.] Everything is for a reason, and the grind is necessary.”

Our staff would like to congratulate Evan and his family on his commitment and look forward to following him throughout the next step in his baseball career.
