Former Team Ontario Pitcher grinding in the Atlantic Professional League

by Nick Prasad

Team Ontario alumni are representing well across collegiate baseball across the United States and the nation. A former Team O pitcher and part-time pitching instructor is playing professionally with his eyes on the prize.

Right-hander Alex Mackinnon is pitching for the Lexington Legends in the Atlantic Baseball League. The Atlantic league is one of the core four independent professional baseball leagues and is partnered with Major League Baseball. Mackinnon signed early in the year.

So far, Mackinnon’s tossed 13.2 innings on the season with 14 strikeouts, eight walks, and a 4.61 ERA. “Mac” has developed his repertoire, adding another out-pitch option that compliments his fastball.

Since attending pro-camp with a Major League club, and a short stint in the Frontier League, Mac has polished his mechanics and arsenal. Lexington has him working in short relief, and he’s been working quality innings.

Mac is around a few familiar faces. Tristan Pompey, former Miami Marlins prospect, and brother of Dalton Pompey is on the roster that is managed by former Toronto Blue Jays catcher and analyst, Greg Zaunn.
