Mackinnon Signs with Aigles of Frontier Professional Baseball League

by Jason Booth

Congrats to RHP Alex Mackinnon on signing with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles in Quebec. The Aigles are a professional baseball club and member of the MLB Partner League the Frontier Professional Baseball League, that was founded in 1993. It is the oldest current running Independent Professional baseball league and has clubs from Quebec as well as Northeastern and Midwestern United States and Eastern Canada. This will be the Aigles first year competing in the Frontier League, as they are a former club of the CANAM Professional Baseball League which had merged with the Frontier League.

Mackinnon went in the 2nd round of the most recent Frontier League Draft and will be reporting to the Aigles Spring Training shortly. This will he second year in Professional baseball after a great rookie season suiting up for the San Rafeal Pacifics of the Pecos Professional Baseball League. It is there where he put up an outstanding 1.63 ERA over 27 Innings of work and earned himself Pacific Division Pitcher of the year.

Mackinnon was later promoted to the Houston Apollos of the American Association of Pro Baseball were he finished his 2021 Rookie summer. Mackinnon had a great college career pitching at Niagara University NCAA D1 where he earned wins on the mound over multiple top 25 ranked teams including Florida State University.

Kyle McKay Director of Player Development had this to say "we couldn't be happier for Alex, he has come a long long way from day one when he walked through the door throwing 77mph and leaving the program in the mid to upper 80's. The work ethic he has always had ,to go along with the plus off speed he has,  I'm not surprised he has had success at the D1 level and now the Professional level. Feels that it was yesterday he is in at the facility every day getting is lifting in, following his throwing program and working mechanics with me. No better feeling for a coach then to see all the hard work paying off for them to accomplish their goals and dreams! "

Good luck in your 2nd year of professional baseball and Team Ontario will be following and watching.
