Ryan McGivney Report & Analysis
Future Collegiate Prospect Watch: RHP Ryan McGivney Report & Analysis
Team Ontario 18U right-handed pitcher is one to pay attention to as we move into spring training and
prep for the 2024 season. Late last year, Ryan McGivney joined Team O in pursuit of a collegiate
opportunity which was granted. McGivney verbally committed as a two-way player to South Suburban
College, NJCAA division 1.
McGivney has developed physically and performance-wise since the fall. He holds a 6’0” 180lbs athletic
frame and is physically noticeable when on the mound. He started in the fall still filing out into his
makeup while displaying pitch-ability and projection.
Team Ontario took to the road in October, battling extensively various well-established colleges such as
but not limited to the University of South Carolina Lancaster, Western Kentucky University, and Ball State
University. McGivney held his weight and attacked established hitters in each matchup.
Scouting Report – RHP Ryan McGivney (Nick Prasad, Scouting Coordinator)
McGivney flashes an athletic-strong build, displaying strength from top to bottom with clear visible
changes to his body in an athletic development aspect. The club’s offseason performance program has a
part to play in this change; the change is noticeable from 2023 to the present day.
McGivney has a strong arm combined with a good synergic use of his body; specifically the lower half
and the hips. His delivery is explosive and is somewhat repeated well. Fundamentally he’s been working
through twitches to polish his delivery and finish.
He throws a fastball that contains bite and that’s commanded above average. The fastball sits between
84-87mph, with his max fastball touching 91mph. McGivney is projected to be a 90-91 consistent by
mid-2024 leading up to his college departure. He flashes a changeup that ranges between 72-74mph
and a slider at 74-75mph. McGivney recorded a consistent 91mph pull-down this offseason.
He projects well in makeup and pitch development. McGivney plays around with his off-speed and has
common knowledge of usage within counts. This player is a great addition to South Suburban College
and will develop and advance.
