Team ontario baseball claims a pair of championships down south
Team Ontario Baseball Club, an elite amateur baseball program playing out of Aurora, flew down south for two weeks in early-to-mid October for an exposure tour.
The trip was the first time the program had crossed the border since the pandemic hit in early 2020, something that has become a staple in the organization to get players in front of U.S. college coaches.
The 2021 fall tour saw the team play in tournaments in Atlanta and Indianapolis, while playing against college teams from Indiana, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Illinois and Michigan.
While the most exciting points of the 13 days was supposed to be the visits to college campuses, a pair of tournament championships would certainly change that.
After starting the trip against Division I Butler University, Team Ontario headed to Atlanta for the 'Perfect Game South East Fall Championships.' The team went 5-0 on the weekend, winning the championship game 12-3 with Frank-Anthony Caietta taking home the tournament's Most Valuable Pitcher Award.
The following weekend Team Ontario headed for Indianapolis as they slowly made their way back towards Canada, playing in Pastime Tournaments' 'Wood Bat National Championships.' A 2-0 round robin record and a walk-off in the semi-finals sent the team back to the championship game.
Team Ontario erased an early 6-0 deficit to win 8-6, securing their second championship in two weekends.
Team Ontario's fall team was coached by Jason Booth and Shawn Lynn. AKBA Coach of the Year, Shaun McGuire, is a coach with Team Ontario while Aurora resident Kyle McKay is the Director of Player Development and the 16U Head Coach.
