Team Ontario College Alumni Report

by Jason Booth

The college baseball season has now begun across every level of U.S. college baseball! Below we have updates from several players across the organization as we take a look at a new crop of talent who have entered the college baseball scene.

Team Ontario had 5 players make their college debuts so far and several others well early on, highlighted by the Nixon brothers who have both already left the yard twice.

liam wedge, freshman, elmira college (NCAA DIII)

Wedge made his college debut on February 25th when he pitched 1.1 innings against Mary Baldwin, allowing just three hits and no walks in his scoreless debut.

kaedan thompson, freshman, southwestern cc (NJCAA DI)

Thompson also made his college debut last month, starting a pair of games against Fort Scott CC where he was able to pick up two hits in six at-bats. He also chipped in with two runs scored, two RBI and a walk.

liam progulske, sophomore, florida tech (NCAA DII)

Progulske, a right-handed pitcher, has been much more active for the Florida Tech Panthers bullpen. He's already worked 4.2 innings, allowing three runs and strikings out four. His squad has been sharp early on, going 17-5.

dylan vanderberg, sophomore, cornerstone university (NAIA)

Vandenberg has been fantastic early on for Cornerstone University, pitching 12 innings and allowing just four runs while striking out ten. His best outing came in late February against Point Park where he worked six innings, allowing just two runs, four hits and striking out 7.

drew nixon, senior, valley city state university (NAIA)

Nixon swung the bat extremely well last year for the Vikings and hasn't missed a beat in 2022. Through his first eight games he's 11-for-27 (.407) with a pair of home runs, six RBI and four walks. Nixon will be a force in the middle of the Valley City State lineup this season.

shane nixon, junior, university of central oklahoma (NCAA DII)

Like his brother, Shane swung a really hot bat in 2021 and has carried that into this season. Through his first 15 games he's 18-for-60 with two home runs, three doubles, four walks, four HBP and six stolen bases. Nixon's squad is now 10-6 on the season and it will be fun to watch the Nixon brothers continue to mash throughout the 2022 season.
