by Nick Prasad

The Team Ontario College Prep Blue roster (16U) faced off against Rochester JR in the Russ Matt Spring Training Invitational, in Winter Haven, Florida. College Prep Blue is lead by Kyle McKay, Daryl Ringwald, and Kevin Cruickshank.

This matchup was satisfying, with good competition on each end of the field, and good performance by majority of the arms that touched the mound.  Team Ontario’s offence exploded in the bottom of the 3rd and bottom of the 4th, putting up 4-spots in each inning, for an early 8-0 lead, followed by a single run in the 5th, for a 9-0 run. Rochester then woke up, scoring 4 in the 6th inning, and 2 in the 7th. Team Ontario hung on with a grip to a 4-run lead and swiped the victory 10-6.

Team Ontario strung together 6 hits, while walking 7 times, amongst a strong offensive performance, contributing to a win. Some offensive notables show Andrew Kobryn and Luke Stoner both with 2-RBI’s a piece, 2 hits, and scoring a combined 3 times. Wesley Knott, Joe Godfrey, and Austin Sherman pulled a total 3 RBI’s, while Rocco DiPietro, Preston Vieria, Nathan Kaczmarek, Joe Godfrey, Gabriel Gonzalez Royds, and Antony Kulasekaran came around to touch the dish, as a part of the 10-run mark.

Pitching was an absolute show to watch for Team Ontario. Christopher Troyer stood on the bump for 5 innings 88 pitches, only allowing 1 hit, 2-unearned runs, walking 4, and seating an impressive 11 Rochester sticks. Ty McGuirk relieved in 2 innings to secure the dub.
