Team Ontario Grey Wins PG Fall SouthEast Championship

by Jason Booth

Last weekend, Team Ontario's Grey College Prep team went to Atlanta on one of their first stops on the 2021 Fall Tour and claimed the Perfect Game Fall SouthEast Championship in Atlanta, Georgia. The team went 5-0 throughout the weekend, including a 12-3 mercy rule victory in the championship game.

Right-handed pitcher Frank-Anthony Caietta was named the Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament.

Evan MacFadden got the start in the championship and went three innings, allowing two earned runs on just one hit and two walks. Julian Robertson was stellar in relief, working two innings of shutout baseball while allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out two.

Xavier Gonsalves and Jesse Myers led the way with two hits each while Gonsalves, Frank-Anthony Caietta and Brett Johnston each picked up a pair of RBI.

En route to the convincing tournament win, David King led the way offensively with six hits, five RBI and four runs scored. Trailing behind King in the hits department was Tyler Repath who picked five hits, including two doubles and Tristan DesRochers who also had five hits, highlighted by a triple in the championship.

On the pitching side of things, Caietta struck out eight over 5.2 innings while Brandon Langley, Matt Marsh and Robertson combined to allow no earned runs across 7.2 innings.

Team Ontario Grey got the weekend started with a 16-0 win over the Georgia Academy Braves and followed it up with a 7-4 win over AB National Scout Team. Championship Sunday began with a 9-3 win, followed by a 7-2 win in the semi-finals.

The sticks were working all week long while every arm that took the mound for Team Ontario seemed to bring their best stuff. It was an exciting weekend for the players and there couldn't have been a better way to open up the fall trip after taking on Division I Butler University on the Thursday to open up the trip.
